New York, New York… and a bit of NOLA

This tour has been designed around Margarets past experience taking a group of people to her home-town. graduate from the LaGuardia High School of the Arts, and with a passion for her city, Margaret and I have designed a trip aimed at hosting a small group of people who have been here before. With some free time to do a few ‘Tourist Must Do’s’, we have planned a relaxed and social week visiting Broadway. WE HAVE a keen idea on showing you New York from a New Yorkers point of view. We will ride the Subway to Sylvias Restaurant the “Queen of Soulfood,”  – A Harlem legend serving succulent soul food.

We have designed three New York theatre and arts nights out, with time to see even more (Margaret and I will probably go and see more shows on ‘our nights off’ and of course all our guests are welcome to join in on those nights too), or, take time to go tick off something on ‘your’ list, maybe a romantic dinner, some shopping or whatever takes your fancy.

After New York, we will travel to New Orleans, for a different experience of the USA entertainment culture, and it is a week of relaxation and nothing much more than really soaking in Bourbon street and the jazz music scene.

The best collection of large Antebellum Mansions in the United States lies in Plantation Alley along the Mississippi River just outside of New Orleans.  You’ll get an amazing history lesson on Southern Plantation life from the tiny slave quarters to the grand mansions themselves. While the slavery side of a visit can be an emotional one, it is balanced with the grandeur a Gone With the Wind old world experience.

Day 11 TUE 26-Apr NEW ORLEANS – Optional Lunch at Hope Haven

While most of New Orleans has a heavy French influence, the beautiful buildings at the Hope Haven Centre are distinctively Spanish.

First opened in the 1930s as an orphanage and later run by the Archdiocese as a treatment center for troubled youth. Early programs – now long-since discontinued – stressed self-support, so enterprises like an on-campus dairy and carpentry shop produced income for the centre and taught its young residents potential job skills.  Here young adults ages 17-23 who are serious about learning on-the-job skills in the kitchen and on the floor of a fully operating restaurant: Café Hope.
